The Division of Enrollment Management (EM) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, (UT) invites applications and nominations for an Assistant Director to serve on our International Recruitment team. UT is seeking candidates who have the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University.

Enrolling more than 28,000 students, the campus is located in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains in beautiful East Tennessee. The Enrollment Management (EM) division comprises more than 150 full-time staff who serve our students through the following departments and functions: Undergraduate Admissions, International Recruitment, Transfer Center, One Stop Student Services, Financial Aid and Scholarships, University Registrar, EM Communications, and the Veterans Resource Center.

Functions and Responsibilities: Manages the day‐to‐day operations and personnel for International Recruitment (IR). Directs and supervise staff focused on recruitment, outreach, and admission of international students. Collaborates with Director and recruitment team to define, create, and implement international strategic plans that will help to achieve international enrollment goals. Responsible for establishing an international agency agreement strategy. Serves as primary liaison between UT and recruitment agencies and is responsible for the negotiations and management of international agency contracts. Provides high-level services to students and their families. Represents UT and Undergraduate Admissions at events. Reviews prospective international student files and makes independent recommendations on the admissibility of applicants. Provides leadership and assistance in the evaluation of international and high school academic transcripts. Researches and evaluates foreign credentials in student applications.
Qualifications & Requirements
Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of responsible work experience is required including at least two (2) years of experience in the following areas: international recruitment, immigration regulations, and international travel. Supervisory experience. Demonstrated experience in relationship building, report building/maintenance, and the use of data driven decision making for planning and strategy development. A suitable combination of education and experience may be substituted for minimum qualifications.


Preferred Education and Experience: Master’s degree preferred. Four (4) or more years of progressively responsible work experience in higher education international recruitment, recruitment and marketing, immigration regulations, and international travel.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of university admissions process with a focus on international admissions. Cultural sensitivity and knowledge of common international business practices. Must handle confidential information in a discreet manner. Ability to supervise a team and evaluate the work of others. Strong organizational, attention to detail, writing, listening, and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with diverse audiences; ability to counsel students and their families. Ability to express complex ideas for oral presentations and in written documents. Strong analytic, creative, and problem solving abilities. Excellent computer skills, including MS Office and Excel proficiency. Ability to adapt to changing technologies, processes, and procedures. Knowledge of international student immigration regulations. Ability to gather and evaluate information and make effective recommendations. Ability to multi-task and prioritize a wide variety of job duties based on business value.



Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Working knowledge of CRM lead/prospect management systems. Proficiency in a foreign language. Knowledge of Slate, Banner or Sunapsis. Knowledge of UT fiscal and travel policies and procedures.
