Vice President for Global Diversity and Inclusion
Portland State University (PSU), Oregonís preeminent public urban research university, invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for the position of Vice President for Global Diversity and Inclusion.

Located in the heart of Oregonís economic and cultural center, PSU is the most diverse public university in Oregon. PSU enrolls approximately 28,000 students from every state in the nation and more than 80 foreign countries in 88 bachelorís, 88 masterís, and 37 doctoral programs. Founded in 1946, PSU is hailed by The Princeton Review as one of the best colleges and universities in the West. The university is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and all programs are accredited by professional bodies. PSU encompasses seven primary divisionsóCollege of Liberal Arts & Sciences, College of Urban & Public Affairs, College of Education, Maseeh College of Engineering & Computer Science, School of Business, School of Social Work, and OHSU-PSU School of Public Healthóas well as the University Library, University Honors College, and the University Studies Program. A Carnegie Doctoral Research University (High Intensity), PSU has grown its sponsored research in recent years, with $60.5 million in research expenditures in 2017-18. A vibrant campus spanning 50 buildings in downtown Portland, PSU is an integral part of the Portland metro area.

Reporting directly to the President, the Vice President for Global Diversity and Inclusion (VPGDI) will be a respected leader with a strong commitment to the mission of an urban public university and to the educational value of inclusive excellence. This senior officer will promote diversity, equity, and inclusion across the campus and in the greater community through strategic planning, collaboration, and innovation. The vice president will lead the Global Diversity and Inclusion (GDI) division; provide strategic and visionary leadership in promoting an institutional culture that values diversity and supports inclusive excellence; partner with campus leaders, students, faculty, staff, and external constituencies to create and facilitate cultural change and transformation; proactively develop and implement policies, plans, programs, and activities that both educate and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion as core values of the institution; and lead Portland Stateís efforts in realizing its bold ambition to become a national model for inclusive excellence and community engagement.

The overarching goal of the VPGDI will be to promote and implement PSUís strategic plan by intentionally incorporating an equity lens into the working fiber of the institution that will cultivate an environment in which all members of the university will feel a sense of belonging and can thrive as individuals and as a community. The VPGDI will serve as a valued member of the Presidentís Executive Council and lead the 80-member Presidentís Diversity Action Council (DAC). The VPGDI will be responsible for an administrative division comprised of four pillars: (1) Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Advocacy; (2) Diversity Education & Learning; (3) Equity & Compliance; and (4) Diversity & Multicultural Student Services. This position will manage a $6 million dollar budget and supervise 45 full-time employees, including five direct reports, and over 70 student employees.

The ideal candidate will be a visionary and transformative thought leader, strategist, administrator, community builder, and collaborative campus partner who has a track record of successfully advancing inclusive excellence and positive change in a complex environment. This person will be adept at fostering dialogue with multiple constituencies across and beyond the campus, building coalitions, and achieving results through influence, empowerment, and competence. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of and expertise in the issues of race, sexuality, gender, disability, indigeneity, class, and the dynamics of difference, privilege, and power. This person will also possess the energy, enthusiasm, drive, emotional intelligence, and gravitas necessary to achieve ambitious goals. Requirements include a minimum of a masterís degree and five years of relevant experience.
