Payroll Specialist
The Detroit Lions are a professional American football team based in Detroit, Michigan. They are members of the North Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL), and play their home games at Ford Field in downtown Detroit. The team located to Detroit in 1934 and are the NFL's fifth oldest franchise.

The Detroit Lions currently need a Payroll Specialist. The position is based at the Allen Park Training Facility. We will accept applications for this position until 11:59PM on October 4th, 2021.


Under general direction of the Payroll Director, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for end-to-end payroll processing for the Player payroll. The role involves working with all departments within the organization, which includes addressing payroll related questions/requests from players. This individual should be able to work independently, be well-organized, and maintain a high level of confidentiality.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (including, but not limited to):

Field all player payroll requests & inquiries
Transmit 401-K deductions to provider
Transmit Dues to NFLPA.
Set up and process Garnishment calculations
Submit payroll deductions to appropriate authorities
Coordinate multi-state wage allocation
Assist with updating payroll records to changes in tax status, address, and direct deposit.
Review and Reconcile payroll
Oversee the creation of the payroll calendar for the player payroll.
Responsible for cash flow projections for player payroll.
Review quarterly tax filings to ensure third party vendor has filed correctly
Assist in player 401k audits and player enrollments
Work with accounting to reconcile payroll accounts in general ledger on a periodic basis
Responsible for monitoring pay codes and ledger accounts for player payroll
Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential
Complete player employment verifications

Must be self-motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team
Will accept other responsibilities and duties required by the supervisor consistent with the objectives and essential functions of this position. Such responsibilities shall be incorporated into the position description if they are ongoing
Will advise supervisor if actual practice (activity) begins to deviate significantly from specified essential functions
Support Payroll Director for other entities and projects
Help create and document best practices and procedures checklists for effective and efficient processing controls.
Qualifications & Requirements

Experience with Ceridian Dayforce strongly preferred
Fundamental Payroll certification (FPC) a plus
Bachelorís degree or equivalent work experience
Knowledge of payroll practices and employee benefits
High attention to detail
Proficient in MS Office (including Excel)
Must be flexible regarding work hours including weekends and holidays
Ability to travel between Ford Field and Allen Park training facility
A valid Driverís License and a good driving record
